Terms of Service
Last updated: 26 June 2026
Pre-launch template. Spine is a pre-launch platform. These terms are provided in good faith to set clear expectations during our TestFlight and early-access phase, and will be reviewed by qualified legal counsel before public, paid launch. By using the apps today you accept them as written; we'll flag any material change.
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Spine (operated by Tom Weaver, “Spine”, “we”, “us”) governing your access to and use of the Spine platform and its apps — Snippet, TBX, Marginally, and any other Spine products, websites and services (together, the “Service”).
By creating an account, installing an app, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum digital-consent age in your country) to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you must have permission from a parent or guardian. By using the Service you confirm you meet these requirements.
2. Your account
- You are responsible for the activity that happens under your account and for keeping your login credentials secure.
- Provide accurate information and keep it up to date.
- Tell us promptly at support@madebyspine.com if you believe your account has been compromised.
- You may close your account at any time; see “Termination” below.
3. The Service during pre-launch
The Service is under active development. Features may change, be added, or be removed; apps may contain bugs; and availability is not guaranteed during pre-launch, TestFlight, beta, or early-access periods. We provide the Service “as is” and “as available” to the fullest extent permitted by law during this phase.
4. Your content
- You own what you create. Quotes you capture, lists you build, notes, profile details and other content you add remain yours.
- Licence to operate the Service. You grant us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce and display your content solely to provide and improve the Service, and — where the Service is social (e.g. Marginally) — to share it with the audiences you choose.
- Catalogue contributions. Content you submit to improve the shared book catalogue (such as chapter structure or extracted metadata) may be used to maintain that shared catalogue for all users.
- Responsibility. You are responsible for your content and confirm you have the rights to share it. Do not upload content that infringes others' rights or breaks the law.
5. Acceptable use
When using the Service, you agree not to:
- break the law, infringe intellectual-property or privacy rights, or upload unlawful, harmful, harassing, hateful or sexually exploitative content;
- misuse, scrape, overload, probe, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, other accounts, or our infrastructure;
- reverse-engineer, resell, or build a competing dataset from the Service except as permitted by law;
- impersonate others or misrepresent your affiliation;
- use the Service to send spam or to circumvent rate limits and abuse controls.
We may remove content or suspend accounts that breach these rules. Our full Acceptable Use guidance is part of these Terms.
6. Subscriptions and payments
Placeholder. Paid tiers (for example Snippet Pro and TBX Pro) are planned but not yet generally available. The terms below describe how billing will work once paid plans launch; exact prices, trial lengths and tier contents will be shown at the point of purchase.
- Billing through the app stores. Paid subscriptions are expected to be sold through the Apple App Store and billed to your store account. Apple's terms and refund policies apply to those transactions.
- Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, via your app-store account settings.
- Refunds. Refunds for app-store purchases are handled by the relevant app store under its policies. Where we sell directly in future, statutory rights (including any cooling-off period that applies to you) will be honoured.
- Price changes. We will give reasonable notice of price changes; they take effect at your next renewal.
7. Intellectual property
The Service, including its software, design, branding, and the “Spine”, “Snippet”, “TBX” and “Marginally” names and logos, belongs to Spine and is protected by intellectual-property laws. These Terms do not grant you any right to use our branding except as needed to use the Service normally.
8. Third-party services
The Service relies on third parties (such as Apple, Supabase, Fly.io, Netlify, and book metadata providers). Your use of those services through Spine may also be subject to their terms. We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control.
9. Termination
- You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time.
- We may suspend or end your access if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service, giving reasonable notice where we can.
- On termination, the licences you granted us end, except for content already shared with others and copies retained as required by law or for legitimate backup/audit purposes; see the Privacy Policy on retention.
10. Disclaimers and liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost data, or lost profits. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you, and your statutory consumer rights are unaffected.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. When we make material changes we will update the “last updated” date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction, except where mandatory local consumer-protection law gives you the right to bring proceedings in your own country.
